Living Planet Aquarium Visit
Our friends from the Aquarium visited bringing with them fun ways to learn about science. In the hour that we had with them the class got to do and learn many new things. It was a great introduction to some 4th grade science.
They learned about the Water Cycle.
They got to touch (or not touch) 2 different types of snakes.
They observed a tiger salamander.
And they made clouds in a bottle.
The class loved it!
The Provo District also did a little write up about the experience. Check the link for more pictures of our class and the article.
Nothing Ever Happens at Westridge...
To kick off our year of writing, we took at tour of Westridge Elementary. We saw the fan room, backstage and the basement! After the tour, the students were asked to write a story. The prompt they were given was Nothing Ever Happens at Westridge Elementary. The stories were very creative and fun to read. My 4th graders have the best imaginations. I really enjoyed reading them. At the end of the year, the students will be given back these stories to see their growth in 4th grade. What a great bunch I have!
This was the first task of the year that we used to introduce the Engineering Design Process. The instructions were to create a structure that would hold 5 Wonder books. They were given 6 pieces of paper and 12 inches of tape. This is the winning design. It held over 20 books. Great job, boys!

First (Half) Week of School!
We had a great first week of school! I think most, if not all, of the students know everyone else's names in the classroom and have made friends. These days have been filled with many different "getting to know you" activities and setting up procedures and schedules for the rest of the year. I have truly enjoyed these first few days. Every student has their own fun personality and I know that it is going to be a great year!
Dear 4th Grade Parents,
I am excited to have your child in 4th grade this year. I thought it would be helpful for you if I posted a supply list so that you would be able to take advantage of the few days before school starts. Your child will be using the following items in the fourth grade:
- 3 Ring Binder (1 or 1 ½ inch)
- Dry Erase Markers
- A box of Kleenex
In fourth grade we have tables in the classrooms so I don’t allow a lot of things at the table. If students choose to bring colored pencils or markers they will be kept in their cubby. Remember their cubbies are small and cannot hold much. I am looking forward to all the 4th grade fun this year!
